Highway Guardrail Roll Forming Machine

A highway guardrail roll forming machine turns flat steel coils into finished W-beam or Thrie-beam guardrails. It punches holes, forms the profile, cuts to length, and stacks panels — all in one automated flow. One line can switch between both guardrail types. No second machine needed.

Believe Industry builds these machines in Wuxi, China. Each highway guardrail roll former is custom-engineered to your profile, thickness, and speed targets. We ship worldwide. Our engineers handle installation and commissioning at your factory.

Need the full system? We also make the guardrail post roll forming machine for posts and connectors. Pair both lines to produce a complete highway guardrail system.

What Is a Highway Guardrail?

A highway guardrail is a safety barrier along roads. It stops vehicles from leaving the roadway. Guardrails absorb impact energy. They redirect the vehicle back onto the road.

Most highways use two types: W-beam and Thrie-beam. The material is galvanized steel. Thickness ranges from 2.67mm to 4.5mm. Guardrail panels are usually 3.81m or 4m long. Holes are punched at both ends for bolted connections.

One Highway Guardrail Roll Forming Machine, Two Guardrail Types

Our latest highway guardrail machine can produce both W-beam and Thrie-beam profiles. Quick-change cassette design makes switching possible. Here is how it works:

  • The guardrail roll former machine uses interchangeable roller cassettes — one set for W-beam, one for Thrie-beam.
  • An overhead crane lifts the cassette into or out of the mill base. The switch takes about 20–30 minutes.
  • The same 5-ton hydraulic uncoiler feeds both profiles. No need to swap the uncoiler.
  • The hydraulic punching unit adjusts hole positions via the PLC touch screen. Punch dies stay the same for both types.
  • The hydraulic cutting blade cuts both profiles. The encoder adjusts cut length automatically.

This dual-type highway guardrail machine cuts floor space in half. It also halves the equipment investment compared to buying two separate lines.

Machine Layout and Workflow

The standard highway guardrail roll former layout follows this sequence:

  1. 5-Ton Hydraulic Uncoiler — holds and feeds the steel coil into the line.
  2. Feeding & Leveling Device — straightens the strip before punching. 9-leveling-roller design.
  3. Hydraulic Punch Unit (Online) — punches mounting holes at both ends of each panel.
  4. Roll Forming Mill (16 Stations) — bends the flat strip into W-beam or Thrie-beam shape. GCR15 rollers, HRC 58–62, chrome coated.
  5. Hydraulic Cutting Device — cuts the formed guardrail panel to length. Omron encoder, tolerance ±1.5mm.
  6. Auto Stacker — stacks finished panels on the output table.
  7. PLC Control Cabinet — Panasonic PLC, Yaskawa inverter, touch screen in English and Chinese.
